”HOW DOES ONE BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THE UNHINGED MADNESS THAT IS MIDASUNO? ITS RIOTOUSLY GOOD” – KERRANG! KKKK
Midasuno burst back onto the UK Rock scene with a surprise but brilliant performance at the 2000 Trees Festival in 2024 and followed this up with a stunning new single ‘Silhouette’, the first new music from the band in 17 years. They then sold out a follow up gig at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff to a loyal, fanatical Welsh fanbase. Many years have passed but Midasuno with the original line-up have decided its time for the resurrection!
Fusing rock with elements of electronica, twisting and turning from dark, groove-heavy guitar work to throbbing synths, culminating in what are simply the biggest choruses you will hear. Merthyr Tydfil’s favourite sons, re-release their long-awaited full-length debut long player – “Songs In The Key Of Fuck” on vinyl. With years of relentless live performances and touring behind them, the band originally entered Nick Lloyd’s Strongbox Studio back in June 2005 to begin work on what would become their first proper length album. The band’s insistence to work with Lloyd came from a solitary single day demo session, from which the band found someone who came closer than anyone in helping to achieve their sonic goals. The drive to make this happen was such that it even involved the band struggling free of their original record contract to allow the recording to start. Several line-up changes, the search for a label, mental breakdowns, a haphazard recording schedule, dire financial difficulties and even a complete relocation of the band’s studio’s premises, “Songs…” proved to become a nightmare project to undertake and complete.
2006 saw the band hastily release some taster material in the shape of “’Til Death Do Us Party” via the Sugar Shack Records imprint– designed to whet the appetite and allow the band to continue to buy more time to pull all resources together to finish the record. The final notes to tape and mixing took place in April 2007 and resulted in what the band consider as a true work of art. Adhering to the original idea of writing an album that consisted purely of single worthy material.
The mission was carried out and the band still believe that “Songs…” sounds almost like a greatest hits collection – all killer, no filler so to speak. Each song possessing its own identity within the album, highlighting a band with almost too many ideas running wild. From the riffs ‘n techno amalgam of opener “Sister Temptation”, first single (featuring The Crimea’s Davey Macmanus) “Don’t Drive (Faster Than Your Angel Can Fly)’s metallic disco assault, to the wall of noise during the epic punk classic of “Sleepwalkers” – The music has always done the talking for Midasuno.
2025 will bring more new music, more shows and who knows what else. If you want to learn more from a historical perspective find a copy of the book “Dial M For Merthyr” – written by Dylan Thomas Literature Award winning author, Rachel Trezise’s on her time on the road with the band.
“Midasuno will be attacking from all angles. Never drop your guard” says singer/guitarist Scott Lee Andrews who now lives on the other side of the world, not the other side of the Rhondda Valley, South Wales but near Melbourne, Australia.
“Songs In The Key Of Fuck” is released by Sugar Shack Arkive on Limited Edition Trans Purple Vinyl (200 copies) and a 2025 digital deluxe edition on 31st January 2025, distributed by Shellshock and available from good retailers worldwide.
